Top tips for photography - Tom Bing

Professional photographer, Tom Bing, has a strong focus on motorcycles, surf and the lifestyle that comes with both. Covering many events for Indian Motorcycle, he is well placed to give his top tips on how to get the best shots of your machine during 'lockdown'.

Here are his top tips for bagging the perfect static bike shot...

    - Think about lighting

Putting the bike side on to the light helps to make the bike ‘pop’ more than having the sun directly behind you, it also helps to eliminate your own shadow from the shot. Be careful of too much glare on your shiny clean bike though.

    - Angle

Think about the side of view of your bike, generally, you want to show the exhaust side but does the bike look best slightly front on, from the rear or dead sideways? Do you want to shoot from down low or up high?

    - Think about the foreground and background

Too much is distracting but it can help to frame and add interest to the general scene.

    - Editing software

Is there an app or program you can use to subtly enhance the photo? Personally I use Lightroom on my phone and computer but keep it subtle.

Give your bike a clean and take a few shots and choose the best to show off!
