#MyIndianMotorcycle - Mick Souter and his Scout Bobber Twenty
·
As part of a new #MyIndianMotorcycle series, Nineteen01 will be interviewing Indian Motorcycle owners from across the UK and Ireland to find out about them and their machines.
And in the case of Mick Souter, it’s definitely a case of ‘machines’ instead of ‘machine’ as he’s owned three Indian motorcycles since 2016 and will be picking up his brand-new Chief Bobber Dark Horse as soon it arrives at Krazy Horse. But let’s take it back to the start of Mick’s love of Indian Motorcycle…
“My first Indian Motorcycle was a Scout, in ‘Thundersmoke Black’, I remember getting it was like achieving a boyhood dream. It was back in 2016 and I’d taken my previous bike for a service at the dealership and the guys there knew I liked the Indian Motorcycle brand and they advised me that they were coming into the country. I booked a test ride and that was it, I was hooked. The look. The sound. I just loved it.
“I traded that in after three years for the Scout Bobber Twenty - a bike I fell in love with at first sight. There was just something really special about this model for me, it’s hard to describe.”
One of the things that Mick enjoys about the Indian Motorcycle line-up is the ability to chop and change elements of the bike to create your own dream machine.
“I do like to customise my bikes. On my current Scout Bobber Twenty, I’ve changed the seat and the exhaust system and on my previous Scout, I’d changed the bars and added luggage. I picked up my Scout Bobber Twenty at the beginning of lockdown so unfortunately haven’t been able to get out on it as much as I liked, but it has given me chance to get a few jobs done to it so that when lockdown is lifted, I can get out and about as soon as I can!”
No stranger to trips across Europe, it’s the routes closer to home which hold a special place in Mick’s heart.
“I’ve been really lucky and have often ridden in Europe on many occasions. But I particularly enjoy riding on country lanes in the UK and enjoying the scenery. I like being able to stop and chat, stopping at coffee shops and taking pictures. I love seeing the seasons change throughout the year and the changes to the landscape as a result.
“Motorcycles offer a gateway to adventure. I’ve explored Yorkshire and Derbyshire and particularly enjoy the stone walls and the little villages you come across on your travels. I did a week in Wales and managed to avoid the rain for the entire trip too - lovely people and great roads.”
As well as putting in the miles on his bikes, Mick gets a lot of pleasure from admiring his collection and as well as purchasing his Scout Bobber Twenty, also bought a Scout Sixty to go into his man cave as an investment.

“Some people collect jewellery, pottery or art - for me, it’s motorcycles. I get so much enjoyment from them, I’d much rather spend my money on a bike than have it sitting in the bank!"
“I’ve learnt from my previous bikes that whenever you get rid of a bike there’s regret - in fact, I tracked down the same model of bike that I had as a first bike back in 1967 as now when I glance over to it, I remember my youth. So when I collect my new Chief, don’t worry, I’ll still be keeping my Scout Bobber Twenty!”
