Indian Motorcycle x DTRA Flat Track Nationals End Season in Style
·
As the season finale for the 2022 Indian Motorcycle x DTRA Flat Track Nationals, round seven of the championship took place at Greenfield Dirt Track in Lincolnshire over the weekend of the 17th and 18th of September. The DTRA, in collaboration with Greenfield Dirt Track, pulled off a meeting to remember by creating a mini-festival vibe with a trade village, a bike show and a live band to help the riders and spectators enjoy a sensational weekend of racing and hanging out.
The event also had a truly international feel with riders from five countries competing in over 120 races and, in addition to the bumper entry list, welcomed special guests from the world of American Flat Track with Pro Rider Jeffrey Carver and ‘the voice of American Flat Track’ AFT commentator Scottie Deubler visiting from the USA. The Hooligans, as always, put on a show of superb racing with a full grid of bikes and riders from all over the world. It was no surprise that the combination of Pro AFT rider #23 Jeffrey Carver and the Indian Motorcycle FTR came out on top. British champion #93 Jack Bell put up a good fight for second place, with third and fourth places taken by Indian Motorcycle guest rider #105 Meno Loco from The Netherlands finishing third on the Indian Scout, and #37 Leah Tokelove finishing fourth on her FTR.
Saturday’s main race class saw the Pros and Inters do battle in timed qualifying sessions with the top 36 riders making it through to the main event. #11 Gary Birtwistle was the fastest qualifier but he still had his work cut out in the opening heats when #171 Conrad Little got a fantastic hole shot. The opening heats and the semis provided excellent racing and it was by no means certain what the final result would be. US guest rider #23 Jeffrey Carver dominated the race from the start and took the win followed by #11 Gary Birtwistle and #500 Rob Mear.
The Adult Inters had a rocky start to the final with several restarts due to crashes. It was #999 Jake Edey who made it work to his advantage and finished on the top step ahead of championship rival #11x Charlie Kelly and in third place #555 Simon bird.
