Kings Lynn always sets the stage for some proper racing, owing to the well-maintained track. This especially showed in the Hooligan class, with an impressive line-up of riders and motorcycles, including Italian wildcard Sami Panseri riding for Devitt Vanoni and #105 Sam Neville, the round three guest rider on the Krazy Horse Indian Scout.
Sunday’s racing also set the stage for a DTRA ‘first ever’- with Erin Dyer taking the win in Minibike Stock, followed closely by Stephanie Oakes as her runner-up. This is the first time, in a nearly ten-year history, a class has had a female 1, 2. The participation of women within the DTRA is going from strength to strength.
The hotly contested Pro class as ever did not disappoint. After a re-start due to a two-man incident on the first lap, the final got underway with #11 Gary Birtwistle quickly shooting to the front to assert his dominance of the class. Spaniard, #215 Ferran Sastre was not content to accept another second place and in the final few laps of the race made a bold move on Birtwistle that unfortunately didn’t pay off. Meanwhile, the #30 of Alan Birtwistle sat quietly in third, with DTRA old-timer #93 Mark Richardson in fourth on the AJP Moto, supplied by Sportax Racing. As the red flag came out to play towards the end of the race, the results were wound back a lap- with #11 taking the win, followed by the #30 of Alan Birtwistle and the #93 of Mark Richardson sealing the podium with a third-place finish.
As ever the Hooligan class provided a spectacle. The final saw #93 Jack Bell on the Devitt Vanoni SCR1100 get the holeshot, followed closely by the #38 of George Pickering, on board the Indian FTR1200. Despite being quick off the mark Pickering was quickly met by ‘wildcard’ rider Sami Panseri. Panseri manoeuvred his way past Pickering early on in the race, looking like he may take the second spot. But being the experienced racer that he is, Pickering let Panseri command the speed of the race and took advantage of the last corner on the last lap, to push his way up the inside of Panseri, giving the Italian no chance to fight back. Pickering really did unleash the power of the FTR1200 to square Panseri off and take the second place. So first place went to #93 Jack Bell, Second place #38 George Pickering and third place #85 Sami Panseri.
The Inters saw young gun #11X Charlie Kelly finally get his podium win, commanding the class with neatly crafted riding, earning himself rider of the day as well as the #1 plate. Second place was taken by the #217 of Steve Gurnhill, with the podium being rounded off by #775 Kevin Kennedy, last seen on the podium at the Greenfield TT.
As ever the Rookie class provides the perfect starting point for those new to racing. With #585 Danny Williams taking the win, followed by total newcomer #86 Sam Shook, adding another podium to his tally with the #50 of Colin McCabe taking third.
Next up the Indian Motorcycle Flat Track Nationals head to Ammanford, for two days of action-packed racing on the rural Welsh half-mile circuit on July 17th and 18th.
