Five things you CAN do during lockdown on your motorcycle
·
The team at Nineteen01.co.uk are all motorcyclists, so we understand your frustration at not being able to go out and ride. However, over the last few months, we’ve been looking for things we CAN do during lockdown to do with our motorcycles.
- Clean and shine
Depending on how you store your two-wheeled machine, there’s a good chance that it is in need of a clean. Whether it’s getting rid of the dust and dirt that has built up since the last ride or giving it a deep clean and polish to make it shine (and fill a few hours), then give it some TLC. Cleaning bikes offers a good opportunity to check that everything is looking as it should and identify any potential areas that need preparing ahead of your first ride.
- Maintenance
We’re not suggesting that you perform a full service - unless you have the correct tools, parts and expertise for the job - but it doesn’t stop you from checking your tyres (tread and pressure) and chain/belt for signs of wear and tear. Give your brake pads a visual check and make sure all your fluid levels are between the minimum and maximum. If there’s anything you’re unsure of and want to check, then get in touch with your local dealership and they’ll be able to advise you on the best plan of action.
- Customise
With time on your hands, why not take the next step on that modification you’ve been planning? Saved some money on fuel as you can’t go anywhere? Spend it on that saddlebag you’ve been hankering after for a while. It’s a great chance to give your bike some special treats. Why not spend some time on the Indian Motorcycle online configurator as a dress rehearsal and try bits on for size. When you’re done, click ‘I’m finished’ to save your build. You can even select your nearest Indian Motorcycle dealership to send ‘your’ bike to so you can discuss it further. Alternatively, you can print it off, save it to drool over, email it to yourself or get rid of it and start all over again.
- Plan your next adventure
If lockdown has taught us anything, it’s to make the most of our time and take every opportunity to make memories. That being said, what will your first ride out be? Where will you go and who will you choose to ride with? The trip you’ve been pondering for years - get the maps out and start planning. While we may not be able to go anywhere now, it doesn’t mean that we can’t be dreaming about where to go next.
- Commute!
With all but essential travel recommended against, why not make your motorcycle your main mode of transport? With the weather improving and more people looking to avoid public transport, the bike is looking more and more appealing to commute to and from work on. While you may not be able to enjoy those leisurely rides on a weekend, at least you can enjoy some level of two-wheeled fun. Plus, it will mean that you can repeat step one and clean it again, allowing you to spend even more time with it.
